Acupuncture Gladstone

As an ancient Chinese therapy that’s been practised for thousands of years, acupuncture involves placing the tips of very fine needles at various points on the body to assist in balancing internal energy flows. Chinese medical philosophy tells us that energy imbalances lead to health problems; acupuncture’s balancing properties are believed to be one of the main reasons why it’s such an effective intervention.

Is Acupuncture More Effective Than Chiropractic?

Both chiropractic and acupuncture can cause considerable improvement in a wide range of different conditions. Patients may choose to benefit from both therapies or select just one.

We usually recommend that you only engage with one therapy at a time, so that you know what’s working.

However, everyone is different and it is recommended to discuss your unique situation with a member of our experienced team before making a decision on a treatment plan.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most people who have acupuncture don’t feel any pain during treatment. The needles used are extremely fine (much finer than a tattoo needle or vaccination needle), so are extremely unlikely to cause discomfort.

Some people may feel a slight tingling when the needles are inserted. If you do feel any discomfort, its important that you let your therapist know immediately. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Who is acupuncture suitable for?

Acupuncture is suitable for people of all ages and in all states of health.

It is a well-tolerated treatment that can be used safely on people with pre-existing medical conditions, the elderly, children and everybody in between.

It MAY also be safely used on pregnant women and nursing mothers. Please discuss your individual circumstances prior to booking an appointment for acupuncture. ESPECIALLY if you are pregnant.

What Should I Expect At An acupuncture Appointment?

When you arrive for an initial appointment, your therapist will start by taking a detailed medical history, including information on pre-existing health conditions and any medications you’re taking. They will then carry out a physical assessment, before inserting the needles at appropriate points to treat your symptoms.

You will not be required to undress, although for treatment of some conditions, for example, joint pain, you may well need to have the affected joint exposed for treatment.

In addition to the treatment, the acupuncturist may also recommend lifestyle changes that could accelerate the healing benefits of the acupuncture. They will also discuss how many sessions are likely to be required.
